-------------------------------

Once upon a time in the woods, near a village, there lived a little monkey named Mable.

He was a very lazy monkey.

All day, Mable would sit on a tree doing nothing.

Even when his friends called him to play, he would not go with them.

"I'm tired," he used to tell them "I'll come later..."

Soon, all his friends left him.

Nobody called him to play.

Because they knew that Mable would not join them.

But when his friends stopped talking to him, Mable felt so sad.

"Oh, why don't my friends talk to me," he wondered "what did I do wrong?"

He went to his grandmother and told her everything.

"My child, when you are lazy, nobody will like you," said his grandmother.

"But what am I to do grandma?" asked Mable. "I don't like doing anything..."

"Then, Mable, your friends will not talk to you ever," said his grandma.

"Nooo, I want them to talk to me..." said Mable and looked at his grandma sadly.

"Then, stop being lazy and go play with them," replied his grandma.

So, Mable slowly got down from the tree and went to where his friends were.

"Oh, hello lazy monkey," called out his friends "are you looking for another tree to sit on to do nothing?"

"I'm not looking for another tree," said Mable angrily "and I'm not lazy."

All the monkeys laughed out loudly.

Mable became even more angry. "Stop, I just came to play with you..."

"Oh, come along then," said the monkeys happily "we're going to play Banana Belly..."

"How do you play that?" asked Mable.

"All of us go out, get bananas and come here," said one monkey.

"Then we eat them and shake our bellies," said another monkey.

So, all the monkeys left looking for bananas.

Mable did not know where to go.

He started walking towards the village.

Suddenly, he heard someone coming behind him and hid up a tree.

It was a man who going to the village, carrying a little sack on his head.

The man stopped under the tree Mable was sitting on…

…sat down, took out a banana from his small sack, ate it and lay down to rest.

Soon the man was fast asleep.

Watching all of this, Mable was happy.

“Yippee!” He had found a sack of bananas.

Now all his friends would be happy with him.

He slowly got down from the tree and quietly dragged the sack into the woods to his friends.

All of them were back with lots of bananas.

When they saw Mable bringing a sack of bananas, they were very surprised.

But when they opened the sack, what did they see?

Carrots - lots of fresh, orange carrots. There were no bananas in the sack.

Everybody laughed.

"But I saw the man taking out a banana from the sack and eating it," said Mable.

"Oh, you should always sniff a sack and see if it's bananas inside...,” said a monkey.

“Because you did not sniff it, you thought it was bananas…”

Everybody laughed again.

"But you can still play with us," said another monkey “we have lots of bananas.”

So, they all happily ate the bananas, laughing and chattering loudly.

And then one-by-one they stood up and shook their bellies, laughing and chattering even more.

Mable joined them, shaking his belly the hardest.

Everybody was happy that Mable was not lazy any more.

And Mable was the happiest to have his friends back again, talking and playing with him.
