Not so long
ago there lived a little fish called Felix.
Felix lived
in a beautiful little pond, in the park, with his friends.
He loved the
pond. And he loved his friends.
Some of his
friends were bigger than him. Some were smaller than him. Some were like him.
And they
were all of so many different colours and shapes.
They all
lived happily in the pond, swimming and playing games in the daytime and
sleeping in cosy corners at night.
Felix's
favourite game was hide and seek.
There were
so many places to hide in the pond.
There were
tall, grassy weeds. There were rocks. There were very old wooden logs and lots
of shells.
One shell
was really big. Many fishes could hide in there.
But Felix
never hid there because it was always noisy.
It was not a
good place to hide in while playing hide and seek, though it was very clean in
there.
Instead,
Felix knew a secret place between the rocks.
He could
hide there happily and come out when the game of hide and seek was almost over.
It was a
place he loved because it was beautiful and no one came there.
He went
there whenever he wanted to be alone.
It was
Felix's big secret. Only Flossie Fish knew his secret.
And Flossie
Fish was his best friend.
One day,
Felix and Flossie were swimming in the sunshine, singing songs and feeling so
happy when something fell into the water… far from them.
It was big and
yellow…
"Oh-oh,
what was that?" asked Flossie fish.
"Let's
go and find out," said Felix.
Both of them
swam as fast as they could till, they reached the yellow thing that was still
falling slowly under water.
And what did
they see?
A big, old,
dirty, plastic ducky.
It was
sitting on the bottom of the pond now.
"But
who would drop a toy ducky into a pond?" asked Felix.
"Look!
There's something coming out of it," said Flossie.
When Felix
looked, he saw a dirty brown, soapy liquid coming out of the ducky.
It was
making all the water in the pond dirty.
"Flossie,
go and ask all the small fishes to hide in the big shell," said Felix.
"And
ask some of the big fishes to come and help us throw the ducky out of the
pond..."
Flossie left
quickly and came back with a bunch of big fishes.
Felix asked
them to help him lift the ducky out… to the top of the water.
When they
reached the top, Felix asked the strongest fish to hit the ducky out of the
pond with its tail.
Fernando
Fish, who was big and strong, swung his big, fat tail hard and the ducky was
thrown outside the pond.
"Hurray,"
said Felix.
"Hurray,"
said the other big fishes.
"Hurray
for Felix," said Fernando Fish. "He is the quickest, smartest,
bravest fish ever..."
"Hurray,"
said all the other big fishes again, looking at Felix.
"Thank
you for saving our beautiful pond Felix," said Flossie Fish.
Felix smiled
at every one, said “thank you” and swam away happily.
All the
other fishes left, happy that their pond was saved from the old, yellow,
plastic ducky.
Flossie Fish
swam after Felix.
She knew
where he would go.
So, she swam
to the secret place in the rock and found Felix there.
He had a big
smile on his face.
He was happy
that there was no plastic to make the pond dirty.
Happy that he could play in the clean water with Flossie Fish again.
